1) Please tell us about your Career Goals.

I aim to go to graduate school and get either my masters or PhD in molecular biology. In the future, my long term goal is to go into research surrounding cancer treatment through gene therapy/CRISPR.

2) Tell us about your internship (i.e. day-to-day responsibilities, special projects/clients and work culture).

My day to day responsibilities include shadowing the staff scientists in labs and learning new procedures. I also help out in the lab with some laboratory procedures like plating bacteria, assisting with CRISPR/Cas9 assay, and running assays on new technology! I am very grateful to be involved in multiple projects at MRIGlobal. The staff have also been very enthusiastic about training me on a variety of scientific procedures. Everyone is very understanding and ready to answer any questions you have.

3) Describe the process of obtaining your position. When did you hear of the position and submit your application?

I learned about this position at a career fair at UMD. After speaking to the recruiter, they sent me a follow up email and set up an interview with me. The whole process started in October 2023.

4) Which of the following resources did you use to find your current experience?

Career Fairs

5) What have you enjoyed the most about your position or organization?

I absolutely enjoy being involved in many projects which allow me to learn a lot about different fields of science. I also love being a part of a team that really helped me grow my knowledge in science!

6) How do you believe you have made an impact through your work?

Yes, I believe I made an impact through my work even though it is very small.

7) What advice would you give to another student who is seeking an internship or similar experience (i.e. Internship search, Resume or Interview tips)?

I definitely recommend utilizing career fairs held at your university and going out of your comfort zone to talk to as many recruiters as you can. Make sure to look up the company beforehand, learn about what they do, and ask specific questions about the role to the recruiters. Follow up emails may seem redundant, but are extremely important and it shows that you are enthusiastic about the job and company. Lastly, it will take a lot of applications, emails, interviews, and patience before you get that role!
