Name of the Organization: ClearlyEnergy, Inc.
Industry: Energy and Environment
CEO/Founder: Veronique Bugnion
1) How has MTIP impacted your company or ability to hire interns?
The program’s support provides ClearlyEnergy with the opportunity to work with a larger group of interns each semester.
2) What inspired the founder to start the company?
Veronique has always been interested in the intersection between the science of climate, the economy, and policy. She has a PhD in Climate Physics and a Degree in Energy Policy from MIT and wanted to start a company that overlapped these two topics. She developed software solutions that would help both individuals and jurisdictions find a way to decarbonize and reduce their carbon footprint.
3) What problem is the company solving, or what service or feature is the company providing?
As states and jurisdictions set policies regarding the reduction of emissions in the built environment, ClearlyEnergy has developed software that lowers the cost and increases the ease of program implementation in both the commercial and residential sectors.
4) Can you share a major milestone or success that has had a significant impact on your company’s growth?
The District of Columbia passed a major milestone in 2023 when its program to reduce the emissions of large buildings came into effect. It is the first such program in the country and has become a model many other cities and states are now following. DC selected ClearlyEnergy’s software to help support their program and it has been an honor to be on this ride with them.
5) What is your company aiming to achieve in the next 5 to 10 years?
We’d love to say that we’ve facilitated substantial greenhouse gas reductions!
6) What advice would you give to someone wanting to start a company in your industry?
This advice is specifically for women in the energy industry. Energy may have been a boy’s club, but there is nothing stopping women from owning the energy transition.
