1) How has MTIP impacted your company or your ability to hire interns?

MTIP internship Program provides us with motivation to hire interns. We had some of them continue for 2 to 3 terms. One of the interns was exceptionally bright and was hired as an Associate Manager. He progressed quickly and now holds a key position in the Company. In another case, we started to look for an intern and ended up hiring the person as an employee. Participating in the MTIP internships program has been a great experience.

2) What inspired the founder to start the company?

Primarily, her professional interests and desire to be able to support Biomedical Research.

3) What problem is the company solving, or what service or feature is the company providing?

Established in 1992, KamTek Inc. is a biomedical services company. Dedicated to excellence in advancing fields of biotechnology, KamTek maintains a cGMP compliant, state-of-the-art ISO-9001 certified biorepository registered with the FDA and compliant to CDC and NIH guidelines for biosafety levels BSL- 2. KamTek also provides biolab services such as cell culture and microbiology NG sequencing.

KamTek has Multiple satisfactory CPARS Ratings. Our customer rating based on the client feedback is 4.83/5.00, and the Net Promoter Score for customer loyalty is 9.6/10.0.

KamTek has gone through multiple client audits; three of the most stringent ones in 2024 by ATCC, ATCC-BARDA, and Corning. On July 9, 2025, KamTek cleared an ISO9001:2015 Stage 2 audit with ZERO nonconformities and earned ISO certification.

4) Can you share a major milestone or success that has had a significant impact on your company’s growth?

In 2004, KamTek took over Braton Biotech Inc. and added new capabilities, making a great start.

5) What is your company aiming to achieve in the next 5 to 10 years?

KamTek’s aim in the next 5–10 years of operations is to expand its “one-stop solution” model for biospecimen management and laboratory services and to be the biorepository leader in Maryland. We shall strengthen our position as a trusted partner for end-to-end service for the entire biospecimen lifecycle, from receipt and processing to storage, distribution, and disposal.

6) What advice would you give to someone wanting to start a company in your industry?

Build a foundation based on cutting-edge science, a clear market need, and a robust business strategy with a goal to never violate customers’ trust. Assemble a balanced team with all the critical capabilities, partners, and allies with a clear commitment to your goals. Finally, remember that timely Government reporting and regulatory compliance are critical to the long-term survival of a biotechnology business.
